Community Food Matters

MISSION

To cultivate community-wide collaboration that nurtures equity, health, and regeneration in our Western Foothills food system.

VISION

Our vision is guided by our Western Foothills Community Food Charter, a collaborative document crafted with community input that outlines the social, economic, environmental, and physical well being components of an equitable, healthy, and resilient food system.

VALUES

Our “treasure CHEST” of values that inform Community Food Matters include:
- Community input and engagement to guide work and direction of council
- Health of people, planet, and the socio-ecological fabric of our community
- Equity and justice informed governance, programming, and advocacy
- Service to our community members and partners most in need
- Transparency and accountability to members and broader community

WHAT WE DO

For over a decade, the Community Food Matters network has come to together to support our local food shed!
  • Supporting projects of our member organizations, including Edible Main St, Solidarity Gardens, and the Food Forest at Alan Day Community Garden.
  • Organizing the Foothills Food Festival
  • Drafting  and promoting the Western Foothills Community Food Charter based on community input
  • Engaging in emergency food response during the COVID 19 pandemic, including sparking the hugely successful Foothills Foodworks project.

OUR CURRENT WORK:

--> Promoting our Community Food Charter and identifying priorities and leverage points for change in our food shed.
--> Serving as a coordination and resource hub to gather feedback about challenges and opportunities in our food shed from our local community.
